Electric Bugaloo..
Strictly corporate tonight as we sat in our friend's company seats. Just a few things to add on top of the Mavs at Clippers: Courtside Report posted earlier.
-Mid-January blow outs in the NBA can be very boring. As mentioned, the Clippers never showed up. The three guard lineup of Mobley, Cassell and Shaun Livingston just does not work. Livingston is still a very raw player that plays no defense and gets out muscled by the stronger small forwards that he's matched up against. The Clippers need to acquire a small forward (Latrell Sprewell) to replace injured Corey Maggette.
-Fan Heckle Moment Not by Us: Clipper superfan Daryl (known for pumping the crowd with "Let's Go Clippers" chants) was yelling, "U..G..L..Y..you ain't got no alibi..." when Eric Dampier was shooting freethrows. Everyone in Staples could clearly hear it, especially the Mavs bench. Darrell Armstrong was laughing hysterically at the whole thing. Dampier was a little shaken and missed the freethrow.
-By the third quarter, fans starting booing the Clippers effort or lack thereof. Clipper fans RARELY boo the home team! Understand, Clipper fans are the most optimistic people in the world. You have to be blindly optimistic to continually re-up season tickets. I equate Clipper fans to new money. They really don't know the game of basketball too well, but they are happy to see a game at a lot cheaper cost than Laker games. (50% less)
-You have to see the Jerry Stackhouse dunk from the first half. I can't emphasize this any more. check it out here (1659.6K)
-Random basketball sighting: The West Virginia Mountaineer basketball team was in attendance. I think they are playing UCLA this weekend. I guess not everyone from WV is trapped in a coal mine. Anyway, they were waiting at halftime in the tunnel entrance to the Mavs lockerroom, I guess for autographs or maybe "they got next." They probably would have given a better effort than the Clips tonight. (Below is a photo I took of Kevin Pittsnogle riding the escalator. Believe me, come March you'll know who this guy is.)
