So with Charlotte in town against the Lakers, I was thinking that all I could write about was that Jessica Alba sat court-side. Normally I could blog paragraphs on how hot she is and that she's going to D-Level Laker games throwing down a few beers in the process. But then there was a stir in the crowd during the first quarter. I grabbed the binoculars (the only way to see from the sec 316 seats).... was it true? No way.....yep, Shaquille O'Neil and his bodyguard Jerome Crawford sat court-side. (Side note: No one should know who the F is his bodyguard's name, but that's how big Shaq was when he played here, everyone knew who his posse was.)

So why was Shaq at the game? I know that Miami plays the Clippers tomorrow, but does he really need to see the 2005-06 Lakers? Is he part of the Miami scout team? Does he need to chart all of Chris Mihm's move? Was he a guest of Phil Jackson? I was expecting a Curb Your Enthusiasm moment and he accidentally trip Kobe...not the case.

I'll give the Lakers credit, they showed Shaq on the big screen and played the old superman theme. What pissed me off was that 25% of the crowd booed him. Come on Laker fan! You'll cheer a serial rapist and boo a guy brought you 3 NBA titles and countless memories? You boo Shaq, but you don't have the brains to start chanting...fi-re Kup-Chak (clap...clap...clap, clap, clap)!!! (Dodger, Laker and Raider fans do it all over town) I've had season tickets for seven seasons and I boo that shit that fell on the floor this year constantly. I know NOT to drink the Kool-Aid ("just wait for 2 more years as we clear up salary space"). Mitch Kupchak and Jerry Buss have screwed the Lakers for at least the next 3 years and the fans accept it. Keep drinking up "real fans!"

Anyway, so Kobe shot 9-30 from the field in a flurry of missed off balance shots. By the way, this is the 8th time this season that Kobe has jacked up at least 30 shots. As stated on TNT, Reggie Miller never took more than 29 shots in a single game for his entire 18-year career. Was Kobe distracted by Shaq's appearance? Shaq only stayed until halftime, but for the quarter and a half Kobe was not a factor.

Charlotte is loaded with young, quick and athletic players. They may not have a true star player, but they play hard and stay close. For an expansion team, they are headed in the right direction playing a fast paced entertaining game. They led most of the second half because the Lakers couldn't stop Chris Wilcox's twin brother Melvin Ely. Sean May's second chin was able to contribute seven points in key moments.

The Lakers capitalized on several bad calls down the stretch and Kobe won the game by hitting two free throws with seven second left. The refs bailed Kobe out as he drove to the hoop looking for contact. Second year expansion franchise, god-awful jerseys, no-name players versus the Lakers and Kobe Bryant in Los Angeles...you tell me who got the call.

The Lakers won 99 to 98.
