I had to pile on this alternate jersey thing, because I have had two thoughts on this myself. I think the league should at least have some rules pertaining to these "new" uniforms, since D. Stern feels the need to control as much as possible.
Can we please not have home teams wearing a distracting (read: obnoxious) alternate jersey at home? I tried to watch the Pistons play the Nuggets at Detroit last night. When I turned on the game, I was like, "hey, who's that 5'3" guy on the Pistons?" Turns out it was Earl Boykins, who was wearing the home white uni at Detroit. The Pistons were clad in their new bright red monstrosity. I could only watch for about 5 minutes before getting a migraine and had to turn it off.
My other rule is that I would like to see the alternate jersey bear some resemblance to the team's actual colors. While the Cavs will look dashing in their navy blue jerseys, the last time I checked their colors were red, gold, and white. Not blue, ever.
So to recap, I'm ok with alternate jerseys worn once in a while. I just would like to see home teams in their home colors, less obnoxious colors, and colors that are actually a part of the team's color scheme. Otherwise all teams could end up looking like this, and no one wants that.
I'm fine with some teams having an alternate jersey, my problem is when The Association applies the alternate jersey to teams that have historically had success and always had the same jerseys throughout. Teams like the Bulls, Lakers and especially the Celtics. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth seeing the Laker white's and those Celtic alts. This just opens the door to random non-sensical jersey for quality teams (like Detroit).

I like the photo spread, it looks like Sheed is holding up the Cavs jersey.

I understand where your coming from and if your going to wrie about bad alternate jerseys how can you not mention the Mavs silver disaster on opening da last season. However you fail to look at the bigger picture: MONEY. Alternate jerseys equal the potential for more jersey sales. I must confess it worked for me when I bought a white Lakers jersey a couple years ago. Its the same reason the first round of the playoffs were extended to seven games. The old 5 game series gave the underdog a better chance of an upset and now we have to wait for the 2nd round to see matchups like the wizards/bulls or the year before hornets/heat go to seven when the winner was clearly not going to have a chance anyways in the next round against the top seed. But more playoff games mean more money same as alternate jerseys and thats why control freak and uber pimp commish stern allows them.
