It's well documented that I like the Mavs this year. That being said, I will not hesitate to criticize teams or players that I am a fan of (unlike Raider fan), and Jason Terry deserves some.
You may recall that Terry was the hero of the game against Toronto two nights ago, hitting a running floater at the buzzer to win the game. Dirk seemed tired last night, so Terry was carrying the team (37 points) and naturally when the game was on the line, they went to him again for the clutch shots.
With his team down two, under 30 seconds left, Terry takes a runner that was almost identical to his shot the night before, and hits! Tie game, OT ensues. At the end of OT, Terry once again has a chance to win the game. What does he do? He takes the EXACT SAME shot, for the 3rd time in two nights. This time, somewhat predictably, the defense was ready, and rookie Andrew Bogut swatted the ball out of bounds. Game over, Mavs lose.
Hey Jason: How about learning some other moves? The entire team was playing you to take that shot (for fuck's sake, even a rookie knew what was coming!), maybe pull up for a jumper? Maybe take a 3 to win the game, as you suggested in your post-game interview? Just do anything that isn't what the entire arena was expecting.
Jason Terry has never been a great point guard. He is more of a ball handling shooting guard. Dallas is just buying time this year as they develop their future point guard Devin Harris.
