Amare Stoudemire Is Having Knee Surgery
by Brett Edwards
It's not as scary as the headline might sound, but Amare Stoudemire is indeed having "minor arthroscopic knee surgery" on his right knee that is expected to keep him on the sidelines for two to three weeks. It was Stoudemire's left knee that required microfracture surgery a couple of seasons ago, but this procedure is not believed to be nearly that serious:
There has been swelling in Stoudemire's right knee recently, prompting him to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging exam on Sunday. There is an expectation that it will be a simple procedure to remove a "loose body" and that he would only miss two to three weeks but a scope can also reveal more than a MRI does.
You see that cautionary line at the end there, which tells us that a scope could reveal more than an MRI does? Yeah, it's a little troublesome, because Amare has had trouble with this knee before. The same procedure was performed on the knee before the beginning of last season. The bright side though, is that after a little stiffness during training camp, Amare was able to play at an All-Star level and even continued playing in the summer for Team USA. WIth another successful procedure, there's no reason to believe that we won't see a similar performance out of Amare this season.
