Scot Pollard, now of the Boston Celtics, has been known to say some wacky things from time to time. So it's not surprising that he had some fun quotes for us when he was introduced to the media yesterday. Pollard was asked by why he chose to wear number 66 for his new team, he had an answer that was as funny as it was true:
“Because all the other fucking numbers were taken here.”
Exactly. The Celtics have retired 21 numbers as a franchise, and -- now this is just a hunch -- I think Pollard's 66 will be available long after he's gone.
Pollard had some other mildly amusing things to say about KG and Reggie Miller, both of which he "hated" to play against:
“In my career I’ve learned that there are certain players you hate to play against, and Reggie is one of those guys. Even though I didn’t guard him I hated the guy. On a side note, I’ve always hated playing against Kevin Garnett, too.”
With the Celtics now being one of the league's marquee attractions, someone seriously needs to get Pollard a blog. I'm thinking with the attention the team's going to get this year, we could be in for some serious Arenas-level entertainment from Scot Pollard.
I'm shocked that Scot (with one T) didn't take 96. Considering that Shaq made a living dunking on Pollard, I'm excited to see the first Heat-Celtics game.

pollard got no.66 because because the celts won't allow him to use '69'. the c's think for scott to sue this no. is promoting lewd behavior .

...'66' is alright , the c's said . they hope pollard will be 2/3 the devil on the boards !

I don't think anyone in any league can wear "69". It's the "Dennis Rodman" rule, he came thisclose to wearing it as a Spur.

Hey, you need to update that picture: Cedric "Cornbread" Maxwell's number 31 is missing.
Which, by the by, is another reason Reggie will never come back and play for the Celtics. Can you imagine him wearing anything other than 31? No way.

If Jordan will come back "wearin' the four-five," I don't see uniform number as a significant roadblock to pocketing several million dollars.

Yeah, I knew someone was missing, thanks B-Bawful. But wait, was his jersey retired after Bird, Mchale, Parish, and DJ?
And by the way, how much of a schmuck does Ainge feel like not having his 44 up there? The other 4 starters for those teams he was on are all there. He's like Devean George on the '04 Lakers.

Yeah, Cornbread's number didn't get retired until '03.
I don't think it should have been retired. But then again he was traded for Walton, so he managed to bring the C's another championship even after he was gone.
And hell, if the C's win it al in the next couple years, maybe 44 will get retired.

Why do not you put Danny Angie # 44? He helped Boston Celtics to win NBA Championship. He was a good player. Shame on you.
