It looks like the Lakers and everyone else who were hoping to sign a Finals MVP in the off-season are going to be out of luck. According to the Detroit Free Press, Pistons' GM Joe Dumars isn't going to let Chauncey get away:
"I'll say this about his season and free agency: in my eyesight, he had a great season and we will re-sign Chauncey Billups. I promise. We'll sign Chauncey. Unless something's wrong with his hands that he can't sign, no, we're committed to keeping him here."
That's excellent news for Pistons fans. Billups has been a little dinged up this year, but he's still Mr. Big Shot, and a clutch contributor on a championship contender. Whoa, sorry for the Vecsey-level alliteration there.
Anyway, it's good that Dumars is getting a jump on his high-profile free agent this year. I know most Pistons fans blame Ben Wallace for bailing for a few extra (million) bucks, but Dumars would have a tough time recovering from another failed public negotiation with a star free agent
as a lakers fan u should be up in arms about trying to sign chauncey. he would be the perfect fit for that team in the triangle.
