Thursday night, with the Lakers ahead 49-43 in the third quarter, the Spurs went on a 33-9 run to close out the third quarter with a 76-58 lead... ballgame.
During that stretch, Phil Jackson did not call a single timeout. Not when the Spurs ran off 10 straight to get a 4 point lead, not when the Lakers killed themselves with poor passing, not with Tony Longoria driving to the hoop with zero defensive pressure. Not a single timeout!
NOT ONE FUCKING TIMEOUT!!!!
In previous seasons, Jackson had the benefit of coaching veteran laden teams. I completely agreed with Jackson not calling timeouts when other teams went on runs. Those players needed to learn how to get out of jams on their own.
The 2005-06 Lakers are too young, not talented and simply not smart enough to get out of troubling situations. Jackson needs to call timeouts.
