Now that the NFL season is over (is there a game this weekend?), the Thursday night NBA games on TNT have a Monday Night Football feel at the household. Both games are usually good, plus because of Sir Charles and crew, the postgame show has entered into the "season pass" mode on my TIVO. Anyway, here's a brief look at the games tonight (all times are Pacific):
Cleveland at Miami 5:00 PM:
Shaq vs. Obesity - Week 10 of Shaq O'Fat playing into shape. Hey, I saw him for eight years and only once did he show up in shape (99-00 MVP season), so enjoy the 50-60 regular season games and the tiresome shtick that goes along with it (sheriff talk, the bad math jokes, Jerome Crawford, bitching about Jerry Buss, the left hand thing that he does after a hitting left handed shot, etc.).
Actually the key matchup is LeBron vs. D Wade. Last year these guys went at it hard. With all the bullshit surrounding Miami this year, D Wade may look to have a huge game tonight. Cleveland hasn't lost a game since that disastrous 1-6 western road swing last month. LeBron has been stellar and starting Pavlovic instead of Damon Jones has shown that Mike Brown hasn't completely fallen asleep at the wheel.
San Antonio at Golden State 7:30 PM:
Seeing how Golden State finished the season last year, the Warriors looked to be this season's Phoenix Suns. With a young dominant point guard, athletic wing players and good perimeter shooting, the comparison was easy. Injuries, in-house bickering and a lack of a low post threat resulted in an average team with exciting spurts. They lead the league in three point attempts and the Davis/Richardson backcourt has some exciting moments, but unless they can trade for a quality big (Chris Wilcox?), this team is headed for the lottery.
The Spurs are on their (yawn) long road trip (yawn) because the rodeo is in town... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
